Where are moisture separators typically located?

Moisture separators are typically located at the top of the steam drum because their primary function is to remove water droplets from the steam produced in a boiler. As steam rises in the drum, it carries moisture with it. By placing the moisture separators at the top, they can effectively capture these droplets before the steam exits the boiler system. This ensures that the steam that is sent to turbines or other processes is as dry as possible, thus preventing potential damage or inefficiency caused by excess moisture.

In contrast, locating moisture separators at the bottom of the steam drum would be less effective, as most of the steam would rise above this level, and the moisture would continue to travel with the steam. Similarly, placing them at the sides or in the water feed line wouldn't serve their intended purpose effectively, as the separators are designed specifically to target the latter stages of steam formation, where moisture is most likely to remain mixed with the steam.
